The inscrutability of data residing on computer hardware and  transmitted over computer networks  pose  a new challenge in safeguarding such data  from malicious access like Identity Theft, Phishing, Malware, Trojans, Worms, Denial-of-service(DoS) attacks, Eavesdropping, Employee fraud etc. The threat this poses  has brought to relief the need for establishing appropriate processes and practices  across industry and the requirement for a new breed of techno-managers.

The NASSCOM-DSCI summit held at Hyderabad from 2-3 Dec 2008,  and the subsequent initiatives taken by regional centres of NASSCOM–DSCI  are directed towards building awareness among member industries regarding the imperative for safeguarding business-critical information. The example of India being  a major global outsourcing destination and the necessity of building the confidence of foreign business collaborators in regard to information security, figures prominently in the discussions of the Council.

Concomitant with the above requirement the need for IS professionals will  exponentially increase in the coming years. A recent Frost & Sullivan  report states that global demand for IS professionals will touch 2.78 mn. by 2012, thereby promising excellent career opportunities for persons with suitable qualifications and skills.
